How To Make Your Clothes Fabulously Fragrant

Being sweet-scented is important to most of us, hence our penchant for perfumes, aftershaves and even deodorants. But if you want to go a little further and step out wearing fabulously fragrant clothes, try these ‘scent-sational’ tips.

Fabric Softener

Washing powder and tablets will do the job to get your clothes clean, but if you want them smelling fresher for longer, then get yourself a quality fabric softener.  You don’t have to spend a lot, but there are a whole range of different aromas to match individual taste.

Bar Soap

Bars of soap release a fragrance when they get warm.  Wrap the soap in breathable material like a napkin, or make small holes in a soap box, and place it in your wardrobe or drawers.  A few hours later and your clothes will have a lovely floral scent.

Cotton Bag Herbs

This is a simple way to make your clothes smell amazing – fill small cotton bags with your favourite herb, such as lavender.  They fit nicely amongst your clothes or can be discreetly placed anywhere in the house.

Rice Bags

Sometimes, damp in the house is unavoidable and can leave a musty smell on your clothes.  A great way to absorb the excess moisture in the air is to place small bags of rice around your clothes – add some lavender for a similar effect as the herb bags.

Coffee Grounds

Did you know coffee absorbs bad odours?  Piercing holes into a can of ground coffee beans and placing it into your wardrobe is a great way to clear bad smells.  Switch the can monthly for the best results.

Febreze

Fresh smelling clothing doesn’t always have to be a homemade rendition. With its smell-neutralising formula, a commercial freshener such as Febreze is an affordable, easy way to remove bad odours.

Vinegar

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to wear yesterday’s shirt, the best way to go out smelling fresh is to use white vinegar. Yes, vinegar! Mix equal amounts with water into a spray bottle and spray the offending areas of your clothing inside out. Odours will be neutralised and as the smell of vinegar dissipates as it dries, you won’t need to worry about smelling like a chip shop.

Washing your clothes in a cup of white vinegar will also help them stay fresh and remove any lingering musty odours.
