2 minute read

  • Curtains are often creased when you first purchase them.  You can either leave them to drop by themselves or iron them.  Be sure to read the instructions as pressing them can damage the material

  • At the top of the curtains, on the reverse side, there will be a strip of heading tape with three rows of string threaded through it.  Tie the ends of the three strings into a knot in one side of the curtains, so that the thread doesn’t come loose

  • Pull all three strings evenly from the unknotted side in order to achieve a gathered look

  • Curtain hooks must then be be placed in the heading tape, ideally in every fourth ‘pocket’. How long or short you want your curtains to drop decides which pocket you choose for the curtain hooks – the higher the pocket the shorter the curtains

  • Clip the hooks onto the curtain rail and admire your handy work

Top tip: Pleat the curtains uniformly by pushing the material gently back in between the hooks. Tie the pleats loosely with some scrap pieces of fabric and leave overnight.  Although time consuming, your curtains should then return to this form every time they are opened.
