Items you Shouldn't Clean in the Dishwasher

Having a dishwasher can be a real life enhancer, especially after a cooking bonanza. However, not everything can be cleaned this way. Here’s a list of items you should ALWAYS wash by hand.

Wooden utensils

The heat of the water in the dishwasher can crack apart wooden utensils such as spoons and spatulas, so it’s best to wash them by hand.

Plastic Containers

Some manufacturers such as Tupperware claim that their range is dishwasher safe, but it may be better to be safe than sorry. If you do opt to clean your containers in the dishwasher then place them on the top shelf for a gentler wash.

Non-stick pans

The intense nature of a dishwasher cycle can remove the non-stick element of a pan, which would be a frustrating outcome if you’ve paid a pretty penny for your pans.

Stickers

Any sticker on an item is likely to come off in the dishwasher which can cause blockages. Avoid this by hand washing or peeling the stickers off any items before loading.

Copper

Copper pans are really on trend at the moment and look gorgeous, especially in a rustic looking kitchen. But putting them into the dishwasher means they could lose their attractive sheen.

Crystal

Don’t risk ruining your fancy glassware by dishwashing it. Crystal and hand blown glass don’t mix well with high heat, so it’s best to hand wash them in warm water to prevent chipping and loss of shine.
