Lights
A cheap way of adding some festive pizazz is with fairy lights. These can be mains or battery-powered and look nice coiled up in the fireplace or a large glass vase, or spread along the mantelpiece or windowsill.
Greenery
Most people tend to have a Christmas tree in the house - real or fake. You can also use garden greenery such as holly on windowsills (looks nice with the fairy lights) or cut some of the lower branches off the Christmas tree. A holly wreath on the front door makes the house look welcoming.
Garden
If you're not too bothered about your electricity bill, you can have outdoor lanterns, Christmas signs or a pretty outdoor reindeer comprised of lights.
Baubles
Baubles don't just belong on the tree - they look nice hung from the ends of curtain rails or in a glass bowl. Keep an eye out in the charity shops in November for bargain baubles.
Christmas cards
You can stick your favourites to a red ribbon and hang on the wall, or hang them up the staircase, for instance on string tied to the bannisters.
Candles
An advent candle can be burned a little each day as a Christmas countdown, and pillar candles look festive nestled amidst greenery on windowsills and mantelpieces.
Crockery and soft furnishings
If you want to go all out, you can purchase Christmas patterned crockery, mugs, plant pot holders, apron, cushion covers and believe it or not, a Santa toilet seat cover. You can buy red ribbon then tie bows around things such as candles, door handles or the dog!
