DIY Decoration Ideas To Spice Up Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a special day, particularly for couples. For some reason, Valentine’s Day just makes falling in love extra special. Keep the love and romance burning by setting your mood this Valentine’s, following these simple Love Month decoration ideas:

  1. Rock ’n’ Roll Love – Tissue Paper Valentine Heart Wreath

You’ll need:

  • Red tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick and glue gun
  • Pencil
  • Cardboard
  • Red paint
  • White ribbon

Method:

  1. Begin by cutting a long strip of tissue paper.  It should be about 3” to 4” wide.
  2. Lightly crumple the paper strip.
  3. Fold the paper in half.
  4. Roll the tissue paper up, dabbing hot glue at the beginning of the paper.  Continue dabbing with glue until you finish rolling the paper, forming it into a rosette.  Make sure to dab hot glue on the ends of the rolled paper.
  5. Repeat the steps for the rest of your rosette.  You can roll at least 40 pieces of rosette.
  6. Trace a big heart onto the cardboard, then paint it red.
  7. Glue your rosettes to the cardboard, starting from the top centre until you evenly fill the heart with the rosettes.  
  8. Lastly, add some holes to the cardboard so you can attach the white ribbon, then you can hang your wreath.

 

  1. Charming and Romantic Paper Flowers

You’ll need:

  • Red paper
  • Glue stick and glue gun
  • Pencil
  • Branches or twigs

Method:

  1. Draw a spiral pattern on red paper about 4”x 4” in size.
  2. Cut out the spiral pattern.
  3. Roll the pattern, starting from the outside, to form the rose.
  4. Repeat the steps for the rest of your paper roses.  You can use a variety of paper lengths for different flower sizes.  Dab a bit of glue at the ends of the flowers to ensure they are kept together securely.
  5. Stick the roses on tiny branches or twigs.
     
  1. Wrapped with Love Wool Heart

You’ll need:

  • Heart shaped cookie cutter
  • Foam sheet
  • Coloured knitting wool
  • Scissors

Method:

  1. Trace a heart on the thin foam using the heart shaped cookie cutter.
  2. Cut out the heart.
  3. Wrap the foam heart with wool until it is completely covered.
  4. Repeat this process again and again.  Use different colours to create a nice mix.

 

  1. Floating Flower Centrepiece

You’ll need:

  • Flower heads
  • Bubble wrap
  • Scissors
  • Glass bowl
  • Water

Method:

  1. Gather your colourful flower heads, making sure you keep a little of the stem.
  2. Make a bubble raft using the bubble wrap.  Cut it so you can form a skirt around the base of the flower.  The bubble wrap should just be slightly smaller than the flower head for best results.
  3. Cut a hole in the centre of the bubble wrap.
  4. Slip the flower’s stem into the hole.
  5. Trim the stem as needed.
  6. Pour a sufficient amount of water in a glass bowl.  Place your flower heads onto the surface of the water and leave them to float.

 

  1. Adorable Valentine’s Heart Tree

You’ll need:

  • Paper
  • Glue stick and glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Branches or twigs
  • Elastic bands
  • Vase

Method:

  1. Collect some thin branches.
  2. Cut out cute heart patterns from sheets of paper.  Choose Valentine’s colours such as red and pink.  You can also decorate your paper hearts with glitter.
  3. Using hot glue, attach your hearts onto the tree branch.
  4. Arrange the branches together so they resemble a tree.  The natural look of the wood will give it a more rustic feel.  You can use an elastic band or a vase for this, or you can simply glue it to a base.
