Look high and low
Supermarkets notoriously place products that they want you to buy at eye level. Cheaper products and better deals are usually at the top or bottom of the shelf, where your eye doesn’t naturally fall. Look high and low and you’ll be sure to find some bargains.
Home brands
Branded isn’t always better. Some supermarket own brands are made in the same factory as the more expensive brands you’d usually buy. Why not test some out and see if you like them any better?
Great deals
Everyone loves a bargain but don’t be tricked into buying a product just because it’s on offer. Look at the unit price information on the ticket to see how it compares per kg. It might be cheaper to buy a larger bottle of cola, than two smaller ones, for example.
Reduced sections
Those yellow stickers can save you a small fortune if you know the right time to shop. Supermarkets have specific slots in the evening where they will mark down prices by 75 per cent or more, which is great for meats and other freezable items.
Online shopping
Not only can online shopping prevent you the hassle of leaving your home, you could also save yourself money. Not only will you be less inclined to pick items up that you don’t need, most supermarkets have coupons that you can use online to save you money. If you do a search for a supermarkets promo discount code there are usually some good deals up for grabs.
Hunger
Hunger is your worst enemy while shopping and the supermarkets’ best friend. The shops know how to trick you into impulse buys. That fresh bread smells amazing, right? That’s so you’ll be hungrier while you shop and spend more money. Eat before you go shopping, so you don’t end up putting food you don’t need into your basket.
List
A list is key to preventing impulsive buys. Prepare your shop, take it with you and stick to it! Use a small trolley too, so it doesn’t look like you haven’t bought much.
Receipt
Check your receipt and make sure any deals have gone through properly. Multi-buy offers might not always register on the till, or your reduced barcode may not have scanned. Take up any queries with the cashier or the customer service desk and they’ll be able to refund the difference.
