Cushions

Investing in colourful scatter cushions is a great way to add colour and personality. Mix up the fabrics, choose textures which complement and contrast with your soft furnishings. Pick bright oranges or teal colours and your living room will be bursting with vibrancy.

Bedding

Change your bedding, not your wallpaper. Sheets can be as cheap as you want them to be depending on where you buy them from and the thread count you select. Most department or specialist shops will sell a wide range of different fabrics and patterns. Pick a design which has one of the colours from your current wallpaper to keep the theme, together with a new, lively signature shade to lift the look of the room.

Wall Art

Select from a wide choice of stick-on wall-art from outlets such as Dunelm Mill, eBay and Amazon. Starting from just 99p, these cost-effective additions to your walls can transform plain walls. The stick-on patterns come in the form of inspirational quotes, floral patterns and even children’s characters. They come off easily without leaving a mark, so you can ring the changes as soon as you get bored, offering an inexpensive way to add ongoing variety to your home.

Flowers

Fake or real, vases of flowers add a colourful, unique touch in any room. Welcoming and cheerful, you can tailor your selection to match current fabric or furnishings. The bonus of buying real flowers is that they’ll leave a gorgeous scent too.

Lamps

Buying lamps that have funky colours and are oddly shaped can really add some charisma to your place, as well as brightening up the dullest of rooms. Soft light through a lampshade is delightful and by picking a warm coloured shade such as red or orange, you will bathe the room in a cosy hue.

Paint

If you’re looking for a more permanent change to make your boudoir brighter, try a fresh coat of paint. Cover a feature wall in a lime green or burnt orange, using white or cream on the surrounding walls to make a signature fashion statement. Read our tips on painting your home.
