Weatherproof your taps & pipes

  • Make sure you know where your water supply stop taps are, in case a pipe should freeze

  • If you’ve got an outside tap, turn the water supply to this off using its isolation valve, then turn the tap on to release any water left in the pipes.  If an outdoor tap doesn’t have an isolation valve, or if you’d prefer not to put a tap out of service, you can use a thermal jacket to insulate it instead

  • Make sure any other external pipework is also insulated

  • Drain any garden hoses and store them in a warm place
