New Lawns
- Water the turf regularly during the first few months to enable healthy roots to grow
- Lift a corner of the turf to check that water is soaking into the ground underneath
- Be careful not to over-water, as this will cause the turf to rot
- For the first few weeks, don’t walk directly on the lawn, as your feet may leave indents. If you need to cross your lawn, protect the turf by walking on boards and remove these boards immediately after use so they don’t cause damage
- Wait until about a month after it was laid before mowing it for the first time
- The first cut should be carried out on a high setting, if the lawn has grown rapidly
- Keep any pets off your new lawn for at least two months, as they may use it as a playground or a toilet, neither of which will help the grass grow!
Established Lawns
- Mow your lawn regularly from March until October, depending on grass growth and the weather, to keep in in top condition
- Your lawn may benefit from fertiliser treatment during spring, summer and autumn months, as this can help grass stay healthy, while reducing the chance of weeds surviving
- If weeds are an issue, apply an appropriate weedkiller, rather than pulling them up by hand, as this treats the whole lawn and kills weeds at their roots
