Maintaining Your Driveway

If your home comes with a driveway, you will want it to last a long time without too much effort on your part. Below are a few tips to help you maintain it.

2 minute read

  • Drive off slowly and don’t turn your wheels while stationary, as you'll scuff the surface

  • If any weeds appear, spray them with weedkiller instead of simply pulling them up by hand

  • Don't use any point loads, e.g., a ladder or a car jack, without using something to spread the weight, e.g., boarding

Tarmac

  • Sweep occasionally with a stiff brush

  • For a deeper clean, use a pressure washer

  • You may want to use a tarmac sealing product to make it even easier to look after

Block paving

  • Occasionally sweep your drive to keep it tidy

  • Don’t power wash until the joints have stabilised

  • Top up the joints with sand if necessary

  • Absorb oil with paper towels or a cloth, before it penetrates the surface.  Use emulsifier to extract oil stains from paving, then wash the area with a mild detergent solution and rinse it thoroughly

Gravel

  • Simply rake it once in a while and apply weedkiller when necessary
