2 minute read

Perfect as an accompaniment to steak, these heavenly hash browns are ideal additions to a whole range of dishes.

To make 4, you will need:

  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled
  • 1 medium onion, peeled
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to season
  • Sunflower oil
  1. Grate the potato and onion onto a clean tea towel

  2. Wrap everything up in the tea towel and squeeze out as much of the moisture as possible

  3. Place the potato and onion mix into a bowl and season well

  4. Crack the egg into the bowl and use a fork to bind all the ingredients together

  5. Heat a centimetre of oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat.  This recipe requires a lot of oil to ensure your hash browns don’t end up sticking to the pan

  6. Shape the potato mix into four round patties, about an inch thick (no thicker or the potato won’t cook properly in the middle). Metal ring cutters are ideal to get a perfect shape

  7. Cook the hash browns for 8 minutes on either side, or until they’re a golden brown colour

  8. Serve and enjoy!

Top tip: Try using sweet potatoes for a twist on this classic dish!
