Perfect as an accompaniment to steak, these heavenly hash browns are ideal additions to a whole range of dishes.
To make 4, you will need:
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled
- 1 medium onion, peeled
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to season
- Sunflower oil
- Grate the potato and onion onto a clean tea towel
- Wrap everything up in the tea towel and squeeze out as much of the moisture as possible
- Place the potato and onion mix into a bowl and season well
- Crack the egg into the bowl and use a fork to bind all the ingredients together
- Heat a centimetre of oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. This recipe requires a lot of oil to ensure your hash browns don’t end up sticking to the pan
- Shape the potato mix into four round patties, about an inch thick (no thicker or the potato won’t cook properly in the middle). Metal ring cutters are ideal to get a perfect shape
- Cook the hash browns for 8 minutes on either side, or until they’re a golden brown colour
- Serve and enjoy!
Top tip: Try using sweet potatoes for a twist on this classic dish!
