Equipment needed to make 40 bottles:

  • Homebrew beer kit (40 pints)
  • 30ltr bucket with lid, grommet & airlock
  • Siphon and 'U' Tube
  • Steriliser
  • Long stemmed mixing spoon
  • 40 glass pint bottles
  • 40 caps with capping machine

Instructions will be given on your specific beer kit, but as a guideline:

  • Empty the can of malt into the brewing bucket

  • Top up the volume with water so that the liquid reaches around 25°C. Stir well

  • Add the sachet of yeast and stir again

  • Fit the grommet and airlock and close the lid

  • Leave somewhere warm at a temperature of 21–27°C for around 5–7 days

  • Fermentation will be complete when the bubbles in the airlock have stopped popping

  • Siphon the beer from the bucket into bottles. These should have some priming sugar added as per the instructions

  • The bottles should then be sealed and transferred to a warm place. This will then cause a reaction with the yeast working the sugar to produce gas, which will provide the necessary carbonation to create a head on your beer

  • After 2–3 days move the bottles from the warm place into a cold place to allow the clearing process to take place. This can take up to four weeks

  • You beer will now be ready to be sampled, but it will improve over time and, kept under the right conditions, could last for over 6 months
