Equipment needed to make 40 bottles:
- Homebrew beer kit (40 pints)
- 30ltr bucket with lid, grommet & airlock
- Siphon and 'U' Tube
- Steriliser
- Long stemmed mixing spoon
- 40 glass pint bottles
- 40 caps with capping machine
Instructions will be given on your specific beer kit, but as a guideline:
- Empty the can of malt into the brewing bucket
- Top up the volume with water so that the liquid reaches around 25°C. Stir well
- Add the sachet of yeast and stir again
- Fit the grommet and airlock and close the lid
- Leave somewhere warm at a temperature of 21–27°C for around 5–7 days
- Fermentation will be complete when the bubbles in the airlock have stopped popping
- Siphon the beer from the bucket into bottles. These should have some priming sugar added as per the instructions
- The bottles should then be sealed and transferred to a warm place. This will then cause a reaction with the yeast working the sugar to produce gas, which will provide the necessary carbonation to create a head on your beer
- After 2–3 days move the bottles from the warm place into a cold place to allow the clearing process to take place. This can take up to four weeks
- You beer will now be ready to be sampled, but it will improve over time and, kept under the right conditions, could last for over 6 months
