Foods you Shouldn't Refrigerate
Storing groceries in the fridge will generally keep them fresher for longer, but this process can actually be bad for some fresh items. Read on for the foods you shouldn’t be refrigerating.

Potatoes
Potatoes like cool temperatures, but not quite as cold as the fridge. Store them in a cool, dark spot at the back of your cupboards instead, as leaving them in the fridge can affect their texture and flavour.
Tomatoes
Putting tomatoes in the fridge is a rookie error! The cold makes them go soft, and whilst this is fine if you’re going to cook them, they’ll be very disappointing in a salad.
Onions
These tear-jerkers need to be kept dry with plenty of air circulation. A fridge causes them to spoil faster as they don’t form a protective layer in damp air, so it’s best to keep them in a dark cupboard.
Edible Oil
By refrigerating your favourite cooking or dribbling oils, especially olive and coconut, you will cause them to solidify and it can take a while to return to useable liquid form.
Bananas
If you like your bananas green, then pop them straight in the fridge. However, if you’re waiting for them to ripen to that lovely, yellow colour then keep them in a bowl at room temperature.
Bread
Refrigerating bread will encourage it to go stale quicker, as well as becoming tough and chewy. It’s okay to put sandwiches in the fridge for a while if you need to keep the filling cool until lunchtime.
